A desigualdade mata

Todo brasileiro sempre soube dos duros impactos da desigualdade, mas isso não impediu o crescimento da crença de que a meritocracia abre possibilidades iguais para todos, a depender apenas dos esforços individuais. No entanto, o estudo lançado no fim de janeiro pela ONG internacional Oxfam, chamado “A Desigualdade Mata”, mostra duramente que o sistema mundial hoje rasga o conceito de meritocracia, e que no sentido contrário, beneficia os mais ricos, que enriqueceram ainda mais, e matou milhares de pessoas que estavam no outro extremo da divisão social.
Enquanto a riqueza dos 10 homens mais ricos dobrou, a renda de 99% da humanidade piorou, desde a Covid-19. E nesse processo, todos os dias pelo menos 21.300 pessoas morrem no mundo por razões ligadas à diferenças sociais e econômicas e ambientais. Isto é, uma pessoa morrendo a cada 4 segundos.
E como a desigualdade não é aleatória e nem cega, os dados do estudo indicam que a disparidade tem cor e gênero. A estimativa é que 3,4 milhões de norte-americanos negros estariam vivos hoje se sua expectativa de vida fosse a mesma dos brancos. E que no Brasil, os negros são 1,5 vezes mais propensos a morrer de Covid-19 do que os brancos.
Isso tudo envolve, na visão do estudo, diferenças de acesso à saúde, violência de gênero, fome e crise climática, entre outros. Vou replicar aqui o trecho que a repórter Daniela Chiaretti, do Valor Econômico, destacou do estudo: “A desigualdade extrema é uma forma de ‘violência econômica’ pela qual políticas estruturais e sistêmicas e escolhas políticas que são enviesadas em favor dos mais ricos e poderosos resultam em danos diretos à grande maioria das pessoas comuns no mundo todo”.
Essas diferenças estão se agravando e podem tomar novas proporções na coesão social, tanto que também essa é uma preocupação do Relatório de Riscos Globais do Fórum Econômico Mundial, que muitas vezes antecipou tendências como pandemia, mudanças climáticas e migrações. Na edição deste ano, o levantamento fala que um dos maiores riscos é a erosão da coesão social. A radicalização política e as fake news ajudam nisso, mas o aumento das diferenças sociais, econômicas e tecnológicas – a fome, meu Deus!!!, é a faísca que pode acelerar essa erosão.
A fome mata mais de 2,1 milhões de pessoas ao ano no mundo. No Brasil, segundo levantamento da Rede Brasileira de Pesquisa em Soberania e Segurança Alimentar e Nutricional (Rede PENSSAN) cerca de 55,4% dos domicílios brasileiros enfrentam o fantasma da insegurança alimentar. São 116,8 milhões de brasileiras e brasileiros nesse cenário.
E com a recuperação econômica pós-pandêmica (ainda torcendo pelo fim da COVID-19) muito diferente para cada país, a tendência é que as distâncias vão piorar. Enquanto alguns países patinam com a pandemia e fazem revisões de orçamento para 2022 tirando dinheiro da saúde e da educação e até da infraestrutura, as economias hegemônicas já estão investindo fortemente na recuperação.
Com relação à questão climática e desigualdade a Oxfam ainda aponta que os 20 bilionários mais ricos emitem, em média, até 8.000 vezes mais carbono do que o bilhão de pessoas mais pobres. Tem mais, o 1% mais rico do mundo utiliza o dobro das emissões de carbono do que os 50% mais pobres, mas os efeitos dessas emissões não são proporcionais. Todos são afetados, mas as populações com menor renda geralmente são mais vulneráveis. A estimativa é que em 2030, a crise climática pode matar 231.000 pessoas por ano em países pobres.
Vale dizer que o Relatório de Riscos Globais do Fórum Econômico Mundial coloca no topo da sua lista de preocupações o temor de falha na luta contra as mudanças climáticas. Seguido pelos itens que são consequência da falha do anterior, como efeito das mudanças climáticas, com eventos climáticos extremos e a perda de biodiversidade.
O mundo não pode esperar. Temos que entender que precisamos atuar como consumidores, mas sobretudo como cidadãos. Pois o relatório de desigualdade mostra que não basta apenas querer, reciclar, comprar xampu sólido sem embalagem de plástico, é preciso ter uma estrutura que seja favorável para a mudança. “Só as soluções sistêmicas podem combater a violência econômica na sua raiz e estabelecer as bases para um mundo mais igual”, diz o estudo. É isso aí, precisamos de políticas públicas que nos levem no sentido de uma economia verde e no sentido contrário da extrema pobreza e desigualdade social.
É claro que quem vai ler este artigo muito provavelmente está nos 99% mais pobres, mas se enxerga na classe média. Independente de onde espera se classificar nessa régua, precisamos entender que há um processo contínuo de erosão social, matando gente no mundo todo e não podemos seguir como pequenas engrenagens nessa máquina. Podemos atuar. Além de optar por um estilo de vida mais sustentável, temos que aplicar essa ideia na cabine de votação e depois cobrar ativamente durante o exercício do mandato dessas pessoas escolhidas para o executivo e legislativo.
